Joe wins English Masters

Congratulations to Drumgor's Joe Beattie who has won the English Masters singles tournament with St. Mark's Jal Richardson runners up. 6 players travelled across the Irish Sea to compete with players from England, Ireland, Wales, Isle of Man, Belgium, Sweden, Cyprus, the Netherlands and Jamaica. Joe and Jal were accompanied by Andrew Leckey (St. Mark's), David Beattie (Drumgor), Cecil Dillon (Armagh GC) and Mark Beattie (Strabane).

The tournament was held in the Wey Valley Bowls Club in Guildford, England on Sat 8 and Sun 9 Feb. There where 9 groups of 6 players who all played in a 'Round Robin' basis. The top 2 qualified out of each group to the main knockout competition. It proved a successful tournament for the local players with Mark Beattie finishing in 3rd place and Andrew Leckey reaching the Q/F where he lost to Joe in a "3 end shoot out".

There are a number of similar events throughout the year. There have been 2 events in England, 1 in Belgium and Sweden and one scheduled for Shaws Bridge, Belfast in April.
