Both Armagh Mens and Ladies teams are through to the quarter finals of their Interzone competitions. The men travelled to North Down on Sat 28 Nov and came away with a comfortable 36 shot win. Scores as follows:

The ladies had an equally comfortable win yesterday in Mullabrack against Mid Antrim. Scores:

Ballinderry Pairs

Men ease past Mid Antrim

Congratulations to the Armagh men's team who had a convincing win in the end against Mid Antrim in Killymurris.
It was a very tight first half with only 3 shots in it at the break in Armagh's favour.

The second half was a different story though with Armagh proving too strong on the day adding a further 27 shots to their tally to come away with a 30 shot win.

Armagh will now face North Down who beat Cork today by 8 shots.

 

So near yet so far for Beatties

Drumgor’s David and Rosemary Beattie will not get any closer to winning the Champion of Champion pairs tournament. On Saturday 17 October they got to the final of the prestigious tournament in Shaws Bridge Belfast. Going into the last end they were 9-7 up against N. Rutledge from Sixmilecross but dropped a 3 to lose by 1 shot. A great effort from the local pair.

Success for Trainor brothers

It’s been a great couple of weeks for Kieran Trainor. Last week he teamed up with Terry Crawford to win St. Matthew’s pair, and followed this by winning the County Antrim round robin pairs tournament with brother Sean. It was an all Armagh final with the Trainors beating Drumgor’s Seamus Skelton and Aidan Corrigan. Results were as follows:

Armagh teams victorious in charity games

Both Armagh Zone teams were victorious in their charity friendly games with West Down.

The men's team retained the 'Michael Catney' memorial cup after winning by  31 shots.

There was only 1 shot in it at the halfway stage with West Down leading 27-26

Armagh proved too strong in the second half and ran away to a comfortable 67-36 victory.

The ladies were also in fine winning by 32 shots and retaining the 'Ivan Marshall' memorial cup for another year.

Armagh raced out to a early lead and took a 15 shot lead into the break.

Armagh were able to add a further 17 shots to their tally in the second half to end up with a 69-37 win.

Although Armagh won both charity matches the main winners of course are the charities. A fantastic amount of £2700 was raised by the 4 teams and will be split between the Southern Area Hospice and The Ronald McDonald charities. A big thanks to everyone involved in raising such a tremendous amount for 2 worthy causes.

Hamish Rattray

Armagh Zone has lost a good friend and a great character with the passing of Hamish Rattray last week. Hamish was a member of St. Patrick’s Armagh and was well known throughout the zone and indeed further afield. He will be sadly missed.

The tournament is licensed by the IIBA, under Licence no. MA-01-15/16

 

•             Tournament to be held in the Community Centre nightly at 7.30pm.

•             Entry fee £4 each, must accompany an entry form.  (Cheques made payable to MG Bowling Club).

•             All games played under I.I.B.A. rules.

•             Games will be NINE ends.  No trial ends.

•             Competitors must report to the controller 10 minutes before time specified.  If more than 15 minutes after specified time, competitor will be disqualified.

•             The Committee will endeavour to facilitate competitors, if the specific dates are requested, (alternative dates would be helpful).

•             PROPER FOOTWEAR MUST BE WORN.

•             Final night Saturday.

Drumgor Clinch Division 1 Title

Congratulations to Drumgor who have wrapped up the Division 1 title with 1 game to go. They last won the league in 1981 34 years ago. A win for St.Mark’s in their last game against Waringstown should see them finish runners up.

 

Tandragee G.C. have been relegated from Division 1 to Division 2. The 2nd team to be relegated is between St. Patrick's Magheralin and St. John's Moira. Matches to be played this week should decide that issue.

 

Portadown G.C. are Division 2 champions.

St Saviour's Pairs Tournament and Bowlers Service

St Saviour’s (the Dobbin) are celebrating their 50^th year this year and are holding a Bowlers Service along with their annual pairs tournament.

 

The tournament starts on Monday 23 March and runs each night to Friday 27 March with Finals on Saturday 28 March. Entry fee is £5 per pair. Contact Errol Whitten on 02838 851501 to enter.

 

The Bowlers Service will take place on Sunday 29 March at 7.00pm in St. Saviour’s Parish Church and will be led by Kenny Mulholland. There will be refreshments afterwards and everyone is welcome.
