National Finals

The finals of the National Championships are taking place this afternoon in Richhill Leisure Centre. Armagh are represented in 2 of the finals. St. Anthony's Sean Conroy and Danny McDonald are in the final of the Over 55 Pairs, while Rachel Cassells, May Cassells and Pauline Beattie from St. Mark's are in the final of the Ladies Triples. There will be 9 finals in total so a great afternoon's bowling is guarenteed. The action starts at 1.30pm.

John Doone

The season is ending on a sad note with the passing of well known Drumgor bowler John Doone. John will be missed both in Drumgor and around the zone. His funeral is tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 11.30am in St. Anthony's Craigavon.

League tables will be updated on Sunday evening.

Target set

Only one thing is left to be decided in this season's Zone League - the winners of Division 1. St. Marks' need 5 points from their final game at home to Kilmore on Fri 30 March to claim the title. The target was set after Armagh GC got 6½ points in their final game against Drumgor last night. At the bottom neighbours Kimore and Mullavilly will be returning to Division 2 after Mullavilly lost their last 2 games. They will be replaced in Division 1 by Tullysaran and Portadown GC meaning the 2 teams promoted the previous season have been relegated and the 2 teams relegated the previous season have come back up again.

Zone Cup Final

This seasons Zone Cup Final will be between holders St. Anthony's and St. Mark's. St. Anthony's overcame Drumgor in the semi final while St. Mark's eased past Kilmore. The Final will take place on Thursday 29 March in St. Matthew's Richhill with a 7.30pm start.

Zone League going to the wire!

It's quite possible that the winner of this year's Zone League Division 1 title won't be known until after the last game of the season has been played. St. Mark's have 2 games left - Waringstown and Kilmore (both at home) with the latter being the final league game of the season. 11 points from these 2 games will guarentee the league title goes to Carelton Street. Any slip ups however could open the door for either Armagh Golf Club or St. Saviour's. Both have one game left. Armagh CG are at home to Drumgor while St. Saviour's travel to Kilmore.

Kilmore themselves are rooted to the bottom and with their last 2 games against two title chasers, their hopes of avoiding relegation seem slim. The second relegation spot is between St. John's Moira and Mullavilly. Mullavilly are 1½ points ahead of St. John's with a game in hand, but the 2 teams have to play each other. This will be St. John's last game and with Mullavilly enteraining St. Anthony's in their last game, a big win for St. John's could see them survive. There's a lot of bowls to be played yet however.

Division 2 is more clear cut. Tullysaran have cruised to the Div 2 title and a return to the top flight. They will most likely be joined by Portadown Golf Club who need 6 points from their last to games to secure promotion. The first of these is against Queen Street (the only other team that could mathematically be promoted) while their final game is at home to bottom club Shankill.
