Ladies into Interzone Semi's
Congratulations to the Armagh Ladies who came out winners today after a hard fought battle with Western winning by 11 shots and have now reached the semi final stages of the ladies Interzone.
On mat 1 Agnes Crozier, Ann Patton, Hilary Agnew and Elizabeth Smyth had a very tight game. Although the Armagh rink started off well and were ahead most of the game, the Western rink fought back to even things up on the last end 8-8.
Mat 2 saw another tight game with only a total of 11 shots over the 10 ends, Armagh's Marlene Hobson, Michelle Wright, Diane Agnew and May Cassells coming out on top
7-4 winners.
On mat 3 Rachel Cassells rink of Rosemary Beattie, Irene Doone and Leslie Strain got off to a slow start but two counts of 3 in consecutive ends kicked them into gear and they went on to win 12-7.
Half time score
Armagh 27-19 Western
With only 8 shots in the game there was still all to play for as the second half got underway.
On mat 4 Ann Crozier, Goretti Garvey, Jean Hawthorne and Flo McNally had a tough battle with Caroline Scott and her rink. After 10 ends nothing could separate the 2 rinks ending up in a 6-6 draw.
Mat 5 saw some excellent bowls being played by the Armagh rink of Sophia Minish, Linda Milligan, Sadie White and Catherine McMillen and after 9 ends the Armagh rink led 12-4, but Westerns Jean Carson played an excellent shot with her last bowl on the last end to turn a bowl out to lie 5 and give a final score of 12-9 in Armagh's favour.
Mat 6 saw another tight encounter with Margaret Dempster, Christina Breen, Daphne Marshall and Pauline Beattie taking on Ester Forster's rink. The Western rink started off the brighter of the 2 leading 5-2 after 7 ends. But on the 8th end the Armagh rink lifted a count of 6 to put them 8-5 up with 2 ends to go. The western rink rallied back though and lifted a 2 and a 1 on the last to ends to tie the score 8-8.
